About Miriam

Miriam Anderson is a multimedia artist and senior at The University of Alabama, majoring in Creative Media with a minor in the Blount Scholars Program. Her diverse body of work spans both Bharatanatyam dance and film, showcasing her talents as both a performer and a creative professional.

As a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer, Miriam has trained under the esteemed Smt. Sheila Rubin at the Natyananda Dance Company in Birmingham, Alabama. Her four-year journey in this traditional Indian dance form culminated in her arangetram, a professional debut performance, in June 2024. Miriam's notable performances include opening for spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar during his 2023 visit to Birmingham at the BJCC and participating in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's cultural program, underscoring the universal appeal of Bharatanatyam. She also represented Natyananda in a collaborative performance at the Freeform program with The Dance Foundation. Her international experience is highlighted by her completion of the Warrier Foundation Residency in Coimbatore, India. Additionally, Miriam enhanced her technical skills in stage dynamics as the lighting designer and stage manager for Rama Vaidyanathan’s U.S. tour, featuring productions like New Dimensions and Ratna Garbah in Spring 2024.

In the realm of film, Miriam served as the Multimedia Editor for The Crimson White at The University of Alabama, leading content production across platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. She directed videographers at Birmingham's Sidewalk Film Festival and created a notable stop-motion animation featuring Dr. Earl Bulbrier, a mouse curator for the Alabama Museum of Natural History. This interdisciplinary approach allows Miriam to blend her artistic vision with technical expertise, making her a versatile asset in both the performing arts and multimedia fields.
